David Paxton (Pablo Schreiber, Vicky Cristina Barcelona), a former star baseball player, excitedly returns home for the first time in a decade. But the townspeople harbor very different feelings. Driving to his hotel at night, a bottle cracks his windshield, and he pursues the assailant on foot. Finally coming to a stop outside of a house, he is surprised to see Joan (Kellie Overbey, Sweet and Lowdown) – his high school sweetheart. The bottle thrower is her son, Ross (Connor Paolo, Mystic River), a troublemaker in desperate need of some guidance.

Recognizing similarities between Ross and himself as a teen, David offers to mentor the boy. As the two spend more time together, David begins to sense a deep-seated rage within Ross, which is confirmed when Ross viciously stabs a stray dog to death in front of several kids from the neighborhood.

After confronting Ross about his violent behavior, David is warned by the local sheriff to cut off contact with the boy. But David can’t stay away, driven by a desire to help a troubled teen make something of his life. Shunned as an outcast by his former home, David is beaten and left with no alternative but to leave. But when Ross’ life is threatened by a figure from David’s past, he is forced to risk everything to expose a secret he’s kept for 15 years, a secret that could tear the town apart.
